Game Off

Story Sent in by L.:

Cindy said she wanted to visit her old high school with me as apparently it was a place she really liked to be. When we arrived she led me to the rear of the school, to the football field. She sat down on the empty bleachers and said, "This is where the Panthers played."

I looked up and down the empty field in the dusk. It looked like an unremarkable high school football field. I was about to ask Cindy some banal question about her high school when she shouted at the field, "Go Panthers! Go Panthers! Panthers forever and ever! Slick Panthers! Quick Panthers! Kick, kick, kick, Panthers! Go go go!"

Good for her for remembering all of that. I asked something like, "You were a big sports fan, huh?"

She stood up and shouted, "Go Panthers! Go Panthers! Panthers forever and ever! Slick Panthers! Quick Panthers! Kick, kick, kick, Panthers! Go go go!"

Okie dokie. I asked her if she was ready to leave and she yelled, "Go Panthers! Go Panthers! Panthers forever and ever! Slick Panthers! Quick Panthers! Kick, kick, kick, Panthers! Go go go!"

I sat with her there for a bit. She hummed some tune to herself and just sort of rocked back and forth for a bit. I finally said, "I'm heading out."

She replied, "Go Panthers! Go Panthers! Panthers forever and ever! Slick Panthers! Quick Panthers! Kick, kick, kick, Panthers! Go go go!"

I went home. She still might be there shouting into the emptiness, for all I know.

  1. See, this is why you need to PREPARE for a date. Taking a girl to her old high school? Better pack a cheerleader outfit for her, just in case.

    1. Or one of 1001 ways to act like a loon instead of having to tell your date you're not really into them...
