More of a Second-Date Thing

Story Sent in by Thomas:

It was unexpected when Patricia arrived for our first date with a walking stick. It didn't reflect poorly on her in the least (yet). I just wasn't expecting it, is all. I was curious but held my tongue until later in the date.

After we had been sitting down to dinner for a little while and I had kept her laughing for a bit I said, "If I can ask a personal question, why do you have a walking stick?"

She smiled and said, "It's not for a medical condition," and then she unscrewed the cane's top and pulled out a long, thin knife from it.

"What's that for?" I asked.

"You," she said.

"Care to elaborate?"

She said, "If you get too frisky, I'll see if you bleed."

To be fair, I had asked. On the other hand, I didn't like being threatened with bodily harm on a first date. So that was also our last date.

  1. *glances at pepper spray in my purse and the pocket knife in my pocket* This girl has no sense of a convenient weapon. A cane blade?? You'd be dead before you unscrewed it! Silly girl. Good job on the no second date, op, but for me it would have been because this girl has no common sense in self defence.

    1. Not necessarily Bananas. A cane in itself can be a pretty formidable weapon. Add to that the fact that the OP didn't know there was a blade inside giving her the element of surprise. I think she made a pretty good choice.

Got to admit, I kinda like this girl.

    2. Except she gave up the element of surprise on purpose, so Team Briana!

    3. She did when he asked. It was a fair warning.

  2. The best weapons are the concealable type. I, however, always give my dates an ocular pat-down, assess the threat level, and formulate a security plan...

  3. Actually, if she wanted to bring a concealed weapon, she should have stepped up her game like this guy; http://dontevenreply.com/view.php?post=84

  4. I'm with The Architect. I think this is a great idea, although I don't like the unscrewing part. I googled sword canes, and found many that actually come open by a button or firm tug. Also to consider, once you have the sword in one hand, you can still use the cane as a bludgeon in the other. I am married, but am considering buying one of these for walking my dog alone late at night. As much as the OP wanted to be offended, he should have some empathy that women are so afraid they take weapons regularly to first dates. It isn't personal. I was once strangled on a date.
