iAsshole

Story Sent in by Terrence:

I met Gwen in an Apple Store. Somehow or other my game was good enough to score her number and I called her a couple days later to organize a date.

She looked great and I couldn't wait to learn more about her. All I knew was that she was a paralegal and had grown up in L.A. The plan was to take her out to dinner and then head over to a nearby art museum that was open late. Maybe drinks afterward.

Once we sat down she asked, "You're not one of those asshole guys, are you?"

I said, "I don't think so."

"That's what they all say," she said like a girl who had experienced too many asshole guys.

"I'll do my best to not be one of those," I reassured her.

"They say that, too," she informed me. Well, great.

She was pretty taciturn through dinner and I grew bored with her pretty quick. Still, I believe I was nothing but polite and friendly through the meal and through the museum visit afterward.

We didn't end up going out for drinks, but she gave me a hug goodnight and actually said, "I'd like to see you again." So maybe she just took some time to warm up to new people. I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

I emailed her the next day to say hi, to let her know again that I had a good time with her, and that we could talk about when to meet once more.

She wrote back almost immediately, "Don't know what that means. Robot? You are an asshole guy. Bye bye."

No further explanation. That was it. I thought about writing her back, then realized she wasn't worth it and moved on.

  1. I like how she was good looking enough to warrant a second date even though you "...grew bored with her pretty quick." Nothing shallow about you OP. Nope, nothing at all.

  2. Actually I think he comes off as the opposite. He says, "So maybe she just took some time to warm up to new people. I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt," not, "She was hot so it was a given I'd ask her out again."

  3. I'm team Jared here. Sometimes, it takes a bit more effort to uncover what an airhead your date really is.

  4. Don't feel bad, OP. You probably got the girl who got out a bad relationship and was probably urged by her girlfriends into "getting out there".
