Driving Lessons as an Anniversary Gift?

Story Sent in by Bruce:

Amanda and I met on a dating site. We talked for a few weeks, and liked each other enough to plan a date. We agreed to meet up in the indoor parking lot of a local superstore.

Apparently, one of us (she'd say me) misunderstood precisely where we were going to meet, because I found myself wandering the indoor lot, on my cell phone with a bad signal, trying to find where she had parked.

I took it in stride, and finally told her to meet me in front of the store, which is what we should've done in the first place.

"That's fine," she said, over the phone, "I'm going to pull out of my spot and park closer to the entrance, then."

"Sounds great," I said, as I was walking down a line of vehicles. All of a sudden, the SUV I walked past jerked backward and smashed right into me.

It didn't hit me hard, but it was enough to knock me off my feet and send me to the ground. The driver jumped out and ran to my side. It was Amanda herself.

She apologized over and over, offered to take me to a hospital, offered to take me home, offered to buy me anything I needed, and offered to pay for any treatment I'd need.

I was a bit bruised, but otherwise okay. I took her up on a ride home, and she cooked me dinner in my own kitchen and we even watched a movie together.

So she hit me with her SUV on a first date. I'll never let her live it down, but in eventual revenge, I asked her to be my girlfriend, and I'm proud to say that we're still together.

  3. I've been crying all day because my guy and I decided not to do long distance while he's in Afghanistan. This made my heart so happy. Thank you for this post!

  6. Rachel, I hope your guy gets back safe and sound from Afghanistan, whether or not you get back together when he does.

I would leave a snarky comment on this post, but the story is just too darn cute for that.

  8. I read this story and it inspired me to throw myself in front of a car, but at the last minute I changed my mind when I saw the driver was fat. Sorry, THIS guy only gets hospitalized by the cuties!

  9. ^ Assuming the person who hits you even bothers to call a hospital.

  10. ^ You're so cynical, Baju-Chan. Obviously the sight of my broken body would trigger deep emotional feelings in them, which I could then use to get them to date me. Yeesh, am I the only person here who was warmly touched by the OPs story? The only person who still believes in ROMANCE?!?

  12. *hugs to Rachael* Long distance with a serviceperson is really hard, and I'm sorry that you and he have to go through this. I'm glad that this site exists for when we need to have a laugh during a bad day/week/month/year.
