No Quiero Taco Bell

Submitted by H.:

When I was in high school, I dated Samaya for some time. I met her at my cousin’s house and we really hit it off. We exchanged numbers, started calling each other, and one thing led to another.

We are both of Indian descent, and her father is a prominent member of the community. Since she wasn't allowed to date, she was always scared that we would run into someone her father knew and that it would get back to him. So, whenever we went out, she was always really careful and we had to sneak around.

The last time I went to go visit her (she lived somewhat far from me), we went to get lunch at Chipotle. As we were getting ready to go inside, she asked me if I could just go pick it up for her and bring it back to the car because she was scared that somebody inside would recognize her.

Now, normally I wouldn't mind picking up food for her and bringing it back and eating in the car, but I guess I was just fed up with always having to sneak around. Plus, it meant that I would have to spend some time away from her while I was waiting in line, ordering, etc.

I refused and told her that I wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. We got into a big argument about it and ended up going to Taco Bell because they had a drive-through, which meant that I could stay with her the whole time.

When we got there, she told me that she wasn't hungry anymore. Fine. When we got to the window, I didn't ask her if she wanted anything. I got my food, pulled into one of the parking spots, and started eating.

She glared at me and then went off about how I didn't care about her and that I was such an asshole.

I responded with saying that she said that she wasn't hungry and that she could have told me when I was at the drive-through that she wanted something, and that we could share my food or go get some more.

She wasn't having any of that and gave me the silent treatment until I dropped her off.

We broke up via phone on my drive home.

A little while after, I found out that she had lied to me about being single when we met, and she had also lied about her age. I laugh when I think back about it now.

  4. What the hell is wrong with YOU that you couldn't let her out of your site for 10 minutes while you ordered food?

  6. Original poster - typical hard-headed Indian man. Always so inflexible, unwilling to have it any way than HIS way.

  7. Wow, tough crowd. I don't think he was being "inflexible". I think he was just sick of sneaking around. She was just playing games with him.

  8. Anyone else have that really gross pimple ad on the side of their screen?

Chipotle and Taco Bell are equally disgusting and, I believe, are directly responsible for the downfall of 90% of relationships, and humanity in general.
They should post that in the window somewhere.

  9. Comparing Chipotle and Taco Bell is like compaing Ruth's Chris Steak House and Shoney's.

  10. Get a life...why couldn't you be away from her for 5 minutes to order food. No wonder she broke up with you.

  11. How old were you 12?

  12. I don't know why everyone keeps beating up on the OP. The issue here doesn't seem to be that he didn't want her out of his sight for a few minutes, it's that he was sick of her not being honest about them being in a relationship. Having a secret love interest is fun at first but gets old quickly. I feel bad for him having to go through that.

  13. Judging by the comments above, 12 years old would mean he fits in perfectly around here.

  14. Hey guys, gimme a break. Like I said it was high school. And its not that I couldn't be without her for 10 minutes I was just sick of having to sneak around.

  15. This story is about nothing more than a typical angsty teenage relationship.

  16. Hey OP, I support you! She was sneaking around and being dishonest. Not a good person to be with! I bet she was sneaking around because she didn't want her other boyfriend to find out (you said you found out she wasn't single later) and that her story about her dad not wanting her to date was just a lame excuse.

  17. So you knew that she wasn't allowed to date, you knew that the both of you would get in trouble if she was caught, you knew that her family was widely recognized around the community, and yet you still felt the need to act like an ass when she took some precautions? OP, you've got no excuses. If you didn't want to sneak around, you never should have dated this girl in the first place.

  18. Seriously, I have a thirst for brain bleach after reading this travesty of a date. OK OP, I'll cut you a lot of slack for having to deal with the sneaking around bit and her behaviour. But honestly, your excuse that you didn't want to bring back food from the eatery was sublimely pathetic. You did not want to spend some 10 minutes apart from her to pick up her food? I honestly doubt that was your reason. I think you had gotten fed up of her antics and were just looking for an excuse to start an argument because you were not man enough to end the relationship without controversy.

Dating in India itself is more interesting. In some families casual dating is strictly forbidden. The first date alone is marriage. Later when the groom's family discovers that the dowery is paltry, the bride is burnt alive.

Taco Bell serves beef. What kind of nice Indian kids eat there?
