Faster than Electricity

Submitted by Zachary:

Joni was a couple of years younger than I and was finishing up college.  We had planned to meet up on a Thursday night.  When I called her Thursday afternoon to confirm, she told me that she had just been assigned a mountain of homework and might have to either start the date early or cut it short.

I told her that this was fine, and asked her if she'd rather postpone.  She insisted that she'd still be able to meet up that night, and that we'd probably be better off ending it early.

Our plan was to rendezvous at her college, which was a half-hour away from me.  She appeared a few minutes late, wore solid first date attire, gave me a huge hug, and carried two small packs of potato chips.  She handed me one of them.

"This kind of has to be our first date meal," she said, "Sorry."

She must have read "What the hell?" from the way that I looked at her.  She went on, "I just have too much homework to go out.  I'm sorry!  I have a big pile of it due tomorrow and a test on electromagnetism on Monday."

She then caught herself and stared at me wide-eyed.  She said, "Do you prefer regular or sour cream and onion?  I can't believe that I didn't even ask."

I didn't say anything.  She said, "Well, say something!  Aren't you happy to see me?"

"I... guess.  I'm sorry.  I was just expecting a bit more than a hug and chips."

She brushed my face with her hand and said, "Aww, I'm sorry.  Maybe next week?"

I said, "Yeah.  Maybe next week."

She handed me the other bag of chips and said, "Here, for your trouble."  She then leaned in, kissed my cheek, and said, "Good night!"

I went home and promptly forgot about her.

  1. How dare this girl not put off furthering her education for a guy she just now met. Classic case of selfishness.

  2. what was so bad about this date? was it that she really wanted to see you despite all the work she had to do?

  3. Seriously? This girl seemed really nice. Yes she should probably have just agreed to postpone the date, but she probably thought that you guys could have more time and then as the moment approached started to panic about all the work she had to do.
    Oh well, your loss.

  4. Is this site hurting for new material?

  5. I would be pissed if I was this guy. I wouldn't want to drive 30 minutes for a person to hand me a bag of fkin chips. She should have just postponed if she couldn't fit him in. That would have been the nice thing to do.

  6. Seriously I'd be pissed too. He offered to postpone the date! I did 5 years of college and university schooling, and I did go on dates during that time. If you had a lot to do that night, don't meet your date who drove a half hour to see you (I don't care if they came around the corner to see you, it's still rude) hand him a bag of chips and walk away. That's just stupid. Meet Monday after her big test. Geezaloo the people defending Joni are idiots. I don't understand this site's need to bash the OP no matter what happened in the story. NOBODY would have put up with this behaviour and seen her again.

  7. Why are the OPs always either doormats or divas? Why nothing in between? Oh yeah, because the in betweens aren't single anymore...

  8. I'm confused - was she supposed to have a 3-course meal waiting for him or something?

    Boring.

  9. Yeah, she should have postponed, but I bet if you gave her a shot you might have fun. She seems nice.

  10. She didn't need a 3 course meal waiting... but they could have gone out for something to eat and maybe had a conversation. Instead she gave him a hug and a bag of chips and left. If he had not offered to postpone the date to when it was a better time for her, then I could see your point. If he had said 'it's now or never babe, I have to at least meet you tonight or we're never going out,' then okay, he's at fault and it was of no fault of Joni's. I seriously cannot figure out what the OP did wrong here, how he was a diva or a doormat? You guys make no sense to me.

  12. Sounds like the OP's loss... Her gain for not ending up with such a tightwad!!!

  13. I side with the OP here. I hate people who waste my time. OP offered to postpone the date, but instead the girl opted for the "what's the minimal amount of effort I can put in here to keep this guy's interest and then immediately leave to go back to my work." If you're too focused on your work, don't date. People who are interested in you make time and put in effort. Don't insult them with a bag of chips & a hug.

A tightwad??? How in the world did you come to that conclusion? Do you guys even read the stories before commenting or do you just randomly go through insults that make no sense?

  15. Initially I thought Zachary was a jackass cause she was so sweet and really nice, then as mentioned above she did kind of waste his time since he drove so far, for chips and a hug (which one can just about get anywhere, especially hugs since they're free). Then "I went home and promptly forgot about her" is just arrogant & stupid. Also don't ask to postpone, insist on it. And a bag of chips IS insulting, especially Sour Cream & Onion.

  16. "...I told her that this was fine, and asked her if she'd rather postpone. She insisted that she'd still be able to meet up that night..."

Yes, Zachary must be the douchebag here. How can he expect a silly little female college student to make smart decisions? It's not her fault for letting this guy dangle in the wind while she decides whether she should do her homework or do him.

And now he's commenting about his experience on a site asking for these kinds of experiences? What an utter prick.

  17. Bravo! Applause!! Next time you should give her what she is really looking for. In case you don't know...skip dinner, find some bushes, and get it on. Then don't call her anymore. Bag of chips. Bravo!!

If Zach had been smooth, he might have suggested a study date instead. He could have read a book while she studied and they could of had coffee during a break. Had Zach been able to help her with electromagnetism, who knows what would have happened later that night.

  19. Sweet, you got a bag of chips? At least it wasn't a bag of syphilis. Gotta look at the bright side of things, dude.

On my last date - I had to make breakfast. I'm such a chump.

  20. Why would anyone defend this girl? She was the rude one. A guy offered to postpone, and she makes him drive a half hour for a bag of chips and a hug, all of which lasted less than 10 minutes. That's not a date.

  21. Would it have been acceptable if it were a bag of chips and a blowjob? Why is everyone so hung up on this hug?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Because a hug doesn't get you your cookie, duh.

  23. She sounds cute and chilled out. I think Zachary dodged a keeper.

  24. I think the the OP point maybe that she was dressed for a first date, but not with him. At least that's what I read, they shared chips and he had to go, so then she can go on her second date.
I don't believe this young lady would be in solid first date clothing and plan on doing homework all night.
