I Don't Mean it Like That

Submitted by Porter:

After dinner with Nicole, she asked if we could stop at a drug store to pick something up. We entered the store and she disappeared down an aisle while I checked out the magazines.

After twenty minutes, I decided to look for her. She was in a far corner of the store, talking to another woman. She introduced the other woman as Lara and explained that they had known each other in grade school.

Lara asked Nicole, "Is Porter here your boyfriend?"

Nicole said, "No! Ugh! Ugh, ugh, ugh, no! Eew!"

Afterward, I asked Nicole about it. She said, "Well, I don't think that we really click, do you?"

Maybe not, but there was surely a nicer way to make that clear.

  1. You didn't mention how you met...Blind date? Online? etc.

You should have had a snappy comeback like, "We just stopped by this drugstore so she can pick up some medication for her crabs".

  2. She sounds really immature.

  3. I have had that happen a few times as well. I was sensitive enough to get offended when girls harshly made their point but have now learnt to ignore it.

  4. That's what you get for dating a seventh-grader!!

  5. Like Anon #1, I think you should have said something along the lines of either "I just brought her here to get some meds for [disease]"

"I'm just her social worker, making sure she picks up a pregnancy test."
