A Girl's Best Friend Is Her Sister

Story Sent in by Tyler:

When the restaurant hostess led us to our seats, Celia asked if we could have the closest table to the front door. In her words, it was "in case I need to make a break for it," and then she smiled at me. So she was joking… I think.

But then, before and during dinner, she excused herself and left the restaurant about 10 times, for a little less than a minute each time. I asked her if everything was okay, but all she said was that she needed some air.

The last time she came back in, she looked distraught and said, "My sister's coming. I can't stop her. There's nothing I can do."

I asked, "Your sister's coming… here?"

Celia nodded sadly. I asked her, "Why?"

Celia just said, "There's nothing I can do. I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

I suggested, "We can finish up here and leave before she comes." Celia shook her head, apparently resigned to the inevitable.

About 10 minutes later we were done with dinner. A woman older than Celia entered, came over and hugged Celia. She introduced herself to me as Gina, Celia's sister. She sat with us and Celia looked none too pleased. Gina was nice, but I had no clue why she came by.

Also puzzling was Gina's insistence on paying the entire check for us. I tried to convince her otherwise but she wouldn't hear of it. Once that was done, she told me, "Have a good night," I think expecting me to go and leave her there with Celia.

"Celia and I are on a date," I felt compelled to say.

"You should go," Celia said. So I left and never saw either of them again.

  1. Nah, I'm thinking escaped mental patient. "OK Celia, time to go back to the day room. Let me help you on with your Jacket."
