Medal Head

Story Sent in by Andie:

Greg was well-dressed for our date. The only thing off-putting was the medallion around his neck with the words, "#1 Son" on it.

I pointed at it and joked, "You must be really proud."

He said, "Okay. Moving on..."

My guess was that he had lost a bet. I thought it was funny but I didn't mention it again. All through dinner, though, he kept looking at it as if he expected the words to change. They didn't, and it went from endearing to weird really quickly. I guess that things otherwise went fine. He was nice and kind of funny.

He picked me up at my house for our second date. When I climbed into his car, I noticed that he wore another medallion. This one read, "#1 Mom."

I said, "Okay: did you lose a bet or something?"

"No."

"Then why are you wearing that?"

"Because I feel like it. I have a collection."

"Of random medallions?"

"Yes. Now, are you okay being seen in public with me?"

That was unexpected and a little harsh. "I… yeah."

We went out to dinner and then went bowling. I didn't mention his neckwear again. He acted kind of weird the whole night as if he didn't want to be there.

Finally, when he dropped me back off at home, he walked me to my door. We said our goodbyes and then he leaned in for a kiss. But he didn't kiss me on the lips. He gave me a peck on the cheek. Only this peck lasted a solid 30 or so awkward seconds before I pulled away, wished him another goodnight, and went inside.

He didn't call me again, and that was just fine.

  1. Don't make fun of him OP. His dad gave him that medallion.

I realize that joke is a few things:
    1. Old
    2. Racist
    3. Pretty funny to a guy that just had a half Chinese baby.

  2. I don't know, Architect, might have been his Italian uncle
