Right Well Snookered

Story Sent in by Alana:

I had gone out on a couple of brief, successful dates with Joe and one weekend I invited him out to play snooker with me and my brother, Kent. We were at it for a little while when unfortunately Joe heard that Kent was a Tory (the only one in the family - please don't judge us). Joe, like me, was a Labour supporter.

Joe then quizzed Kent on topic after topic. I'm not a Conservative by any stretch but I still love my brother and Joe was making even me uncomfortable.

Joe finally pressed Kent on some welfare matter and then Joe picked up his cue stick and brandished it at Kent as if he was going to strike him! I had to separate the two and the proprietor actually threw us out.

Once we were outside Joe wasn't done. He yelled at me to "Choose" between my brother and himself. I sided with Kent of course, and Joe yelled some obscene words as Kent and I left together.

As we hurried off, Kent said, "Can we at least agree that Joe is a right arsehole?"

Yes, Kent. Yes, we can.

  1. Seems your date was a typical triggered snowflake. His style of conducting an argument appears to be right out of the Liberal textbook, to boot! Kudos to your brother for keeping it 100!

    1. Here we go... I'll kindly ask you to reread. Alana said: "the only one in the family" meaning that the rest of her family are Labour, left wing, supporters. Now assuming that she still has both parents, that's at least three left wing Labour supporters who don't get into arguments with Kent and don't follow the "Liberal textbook" to boot. And this could be more if she has more siblings.

      Google "confirmation bias".

    2. Conservatives (nicknamed Tories): neo liberals supporting the idea of a "minimum state" in which all services to the population are provided by private corporations obeying to market laws, alongside deregulation, profound cuts in public spending and low taxes. US equivalent: both Democrats and Republicans (although they promote gay equality and are far from being as racist)

Labour: Left Wing supporting the idea that the state should actively invest in the economy in order to reduce inequality and offer minimum living standards for the less fortunates. It also support public investment in improving infrastructure to help raise British businesses' competitivity and public ownership of key economic sectors (health, public transport, utilities). US equivalent: Canada.

  4. Well you can tell this site (rightly) changes people's names. Kent is part of the UK. Nobody here has Kent as a given name.

OK, I can't definitely say NOBODY does, but it would be weird.
