City of Lovers

Story Sent in by Javier:

I had been with Fern for nearly a year when we went to Paris together for a vacation. To sum up the first few days, we saw a lot and had a great time.

Four days in we visited Orsay. We were wandering near the university when Fern told me she needed to use a bathroom. She slipped into a nearby building and I waited for her. And waited. And waited.

When she didn't come out I went in to look for her. I checked every restroom, called for her, and looked everywhere multiple times. I called her phone and there was no answer.

I decided to go back to where I had first been waiting for her, thinking that she'd likely be back there before long. When nearly an hour passed and she didn't come back I started to freak out a bit. I checked the building's restrooms again, called for her everywhere inside and outside, and tried her phone a few more times.

Fern was missing. I found a policewoman in a nearby cruiser and did my best to explain in half-French/half-English that my companion had vanished. I showed her photos of Fern and sent them to an email address the officer specified. She then suggested that I go to the hotel that Fern and I were staying in that night. If Fern was simply lost somewhere she'd eventually hopefully make her way there.

I didn't sleep that night and I went back twice to the place to look for her, as if that would've done me much good.

When I did wake up from a brief sleep early the next morning, there was an email from Fern. She apologized for disappearing. She said that she had met up with another guy and was staying with him. It had all been arranged beforehand. She even included a blurry photo of herself with him in his apartment.

I forwarded it to the police email address to let them know that she had run off. I also called the airline to cancel her return ticket as I had made the reservations for both of us. Luckily, I had also purchased trip insurance. I did my best to enjoy Paris and its environs for the rest of the trip. For all I know, she's still there with that guy.

  1. I have money down that he still managed to get some those first few days. Probably a lot of some. So hey, the guy she was meeting has to deal with your sloppy, cheating, no good, vacation ruining seconds.

So you've got that going for you, which is nice.

also, "hey sorry I made you WORRIED I'D BEEN KIDNAPPED IN FRANCE, but really I just ran off with another guy." what even kind of bitch is this? what sort of horrible things did you put up with until this point? Or was she the sort to be perfect until she was done with you? a trip to Paris tells me you have some money. An attention wh0re, gold digger, plane ticket wh0re, and an actual wh0re all at once. I'm so sorry OP.

  2. In the blurry photo, was she holding up a copy of that day's newspaper? I guess you haven't watched any of the Taken movies, have you? You actually had no proof that she went of her own free will or that she didn't write that email under duress.

Seriously, you had been with this girl for a year, gone on a trip to Paris together, and then she vanishes. A single email with a blurry photo, and you are all like....

  3. Wow actually archy is right. If the story is true, I stand by my first comment. however, you don't know for sure if she was really ok.

  4. He did say he forwarded the message to the police. I'd hope they were competent enough to at least would verify the situation, especially since it was a potential international incident if they didn't. I mean, as we all know, if something happens to an American outside our borders its srs bsns.

    1. I get what you are saying Wulfe. I mean I didn't expect him to go all Liam Neeson or anything, but just hitting the Forward button on his email was literally the least he could have done. How about contacting her family? Shit, they were together for a year! He must have known someone that could get into contact with her. He never even followed up:

"For all I know, she's still there with that guy."

For all he knows, she was sold to Russians as a sex slave, brutally used, murdered, and is rotting in a gravel pit somewhere.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have had that third cup of coffee.

    2. That seems fishy to me.How can you be with someone for a year then ditch them in another country with no response till the next day? They were there four days before she took off!If this really was planed why did she not meet up with this guy sooner?I think this was planed but not by her. That means she gave up her job and life back in the states.Surely OP would of followed up with family and friends to make sure she was with this guy willingly.I hope the police followed up on this lead.It just does not seem right because OP said they were having a great time the first four days they were there...Either she was taken or she's as cold as ice.How can you turn off the love switch that quick?I agree with Archer,I think OP gave up a little to easy on not a date but a girlfriend of one year...

    5. But then, if something this bad happened, the police, or perhaps her family, would have contacted OP by now for some questioning... Which I hope would freak him out enough to put him off writing this story here.

  5. Yeah this one sets off all kinds of alarm bells. The last time I traveled international with my family we were all always within sight of someone unless we were sleeping or inside a bathroom stall. I can't imagine just traipsing off with no more than a blurry photo as proof of life.
One of the few times I'm hoping this chick is just a raging beeotch.

  6. My guess is she was kidnapped and sold as a mail-order bride. Don't worry, OP, the Egyptian musician will treat her right.

  8. Maybe she didn't like it the smell of a hamper full of dirty undies and Febreeze mixed together!

  9. Well we don't know the flight was transatlantic, but I agree that was one hell of a scheme.
