If That's Archaeology Then I'm Indiana Jones

Story Sent in by Nadia:

Ted told me he was an archaeologist and he knew a lot about local history. For our first date he offered to take me out on an actual archaeology dig!

He showed up with a backseat full of shovels, pickaxes, cloths, brushes, and other tricks of the trade. I followed him in my car to the site.

The site was a cemetery. We parked, he handed me a shovel, and said, "Ready to dig in?"

It was an older cemetery but it was still maintained. We couldn't just go digging around. I was sure of it. I told him, "I don't think we should be digging around here."

He said, "Why not? Most of these families have died out or moved away. You see flowers on any of the graves?" He laughed and walked further into the "site." He then picked a spot seemingly at random and dug right next to a headstone.

"Stop!" I told him. He didn't listen and he didn't stop.

I hurried back to my car, dropped his shovel on the ground, called the police on Ted, and drove away.

He never contacted me again and I have no idea if he was caught or not.

  1. He didn't have any skeleton in the closet and wanted one to make himself more interesting?

  2. Why would you call the police over something like that?

They take selfies at funerals, etc...

    3. Because it's America where nothing compares to the thrill of ratting someone out to the police, and where you don't feel alive until you sue someone. It's wild.

    4. Dafuq? As others said, grave robbing is a crime, and I sure as hell HOPE somebody would call the cops if someone was digging up one of my family member's grave.

Ok, if I'm a single woman, and a guy shows up with a car full of implements that could be used to murder/bury me on our first date, I might be a little put off. If same guy leads me to a cemetery......Well, then I think I'm done with that date.

Seriously OP, at no point did you worry for your own safety? You have clearly not seen enough horror movies.

    1. Yes... Wasn't there a letter a long time ago about a girl who had a group of people who wanted to bury her? Or am I remembering the plot of a horror movie?

  6. A cemetery has to be the worst place to take a date, unless you have a date with the Crypt Keeper.

  7. Sounds like the beginnings of a Creepypasta.

"...until we ran into each other at a small cafe years later claiming he'd unearthed an ancient evil while digging in that damn cemetary and hadn't been able to sleep since for fear it'd take him in the night. Oh, and he offered it my soul in exchange for his life. Damn."
