Enragement Ring

(It's a banner year for cinephiles. Why? Click here for this week's Jared's Inkwell! -JMG)

Story Sent in by Kristine:

On my third date with Phil we strolled down a sidewalk on a nice spring day when he suddenly turned to me and said, "I have an important question for you."

He sank down to one knee, pulled out a little ring box, and opened it. It was an engagement ring.

He asked, "Will you marry me?"

I was seriously, incredibly floored. Like I said, this was our third date. I liked him, but this was super intense and came right out of the blue.

I said, "I-I'm really, really flattered. This is... I... Maybe we could get to know each other a bit better?" I know it wasn't what he wanted to hear, but come on! Three dates! In most ways I barely knew him!

Phil's shoulders dropped, he frowned, and he looked down as if he hadn't expected that answer at all. After a few awkward moments he closed the ring box, shoved it back in his pocket, leaped to his feet, and punched the window of a nearby parked car.

The glass didn't break and it sounded like it really hurt. He stormed away, leaving me there. I never saw him again.
