The Best Medicine

Story Sent in by Janet:

When I tried online dating I met James. He was a local landlord who told me that he used to make money as a children's birthday party clown. He told me a few funny stories about it and said that his clown trademark was his laugh. He told me that it was unmistakable and asked if I wanted to hear it.

I thought about it for a few seconds (we were out to dinner) but I finally said okay.

The laugh was high-pitched, screechy, and terrifying. And it didn't stop! He went on and on with it until I said, "Okay! That's enough!" The rest of the date went fine.

The next morning, I woke up to find over 30 voicemails from him. When I listened to the first one, it was silent for a few moments and then his horrible laughter tore at my ears through the phone. I deleted it and moved on to the next voicemail. Same thing! More laughter! I clicked on a couple of other voicemails and it was more of him laughing and laughing. I didn't listen to all 30, but I guessed they were all variations on the theme.

I didn't call him back, of course. But that day he called me a few more times. I let it go to voicemail each time and each voicemail was the same freaking laugh. I blocked his number and never heard from him again.

  3. Awwww. I was gonna ask if his stage name was Pennywise, but someone beat me to it.

I'll have to go with the KKFOS instead:

  4. @ Jaci & ladydyani - Damn you both! Both of my clown references gone! Love both KKFOS and IT by the way. I'm a huge King fan.

Guess I'll have to go a different rout: Sounds like this date was a real Bozo. I bet you can still hear that laugh in your dreams Clar(as)abell.

Oh! I got one, I got one! I think your date may have been forced into an early retirement from his clown career.

I'm also a bit of a King fan. I'd read itunes TOS if someone told me he had written it.

  9. I think I was about 10 when I discovered King as well. The past few years I've kind of fallen out of it, Under the Dome was the last one I read.

I was upset. There may have been ranting while near tears.
